Cannabis Terpenes
Cannabis terpenoids, or terpenes, are the chemical compounds responsible for giving cannabis its unique aroma. Like cannabinoids, research has shown that terpenoids have medicinal properties. The synergistic combination of terpenoids and cannabinoids create an “entourage effect,” meaning that use of the entire plant is more medically beneficial than any one cannabinoid or terpenoid in isolation.
This table, reproduced in part from Dr. Ethan Russo’s landmark research on the phytocannabinoid-terpenoid entourage effects, helps show a vast, complicated and interconnected world of cannabis, beyond merely THC and CBD.
